Henry G. Scott

Henry Scott was born in Dorothy, New Jersey, in 1944 and joined The Philadelphia Orchestra as a double bassist in 1974. He graduated from the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester in 1966 and holds the degree of Doctor of Psychoanalysis from Heed University. He was music director of the Main Line Symphony from 1981 to 2013 and choral director of the Main Line Ecumenical Choir from 1995 to 2012.
In 1982 Mr. Scott was the recipient of The Philadelphia Orchestra’s C. Hartman Kuhn Award, given to “a musician who has shown both musical ability and enterprise of such character as to enhance the musical standards and reputation of The Philadelphia Orchestra.” He is an avid runner, having completed several Philadelphia marathons, and is married to Yumi Ninomiya Scott, also a member of the Orchestra. They have two sons, Kenji and Kohji.
