Artistic Excellence
The Philadelphia Orchestra has achieved global renown throughout its history for artistic excellence and its plush sound. We are fortunate that Charles Dutoit, our newly-appointed chief conductor, will carry on this rich musical tradition through 2012.
Between September and May, the Orchestra performs a regular subscription series in Verizon Hall, with several supplemental appearances at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Our summer schedule includes free Neighborhood Concerts in the community, a series of performances at Philadelphia’s Mann Center, and residencies at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival and Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The Orchestra also embarks on a national or international tour each year.
Our long record of artistic achievement is enhanced by the innovative use of new media technologies, most recently through the opening of our Online Music Store and the use of Internet2 for interactive Master Class sessions. A recording partnership with Ondine Records has helped us expand our global audiences, while large screen video projection enhances audience experiences inside Verizon Hall.
