Orchestra Met with Enthusiasm Across America
Halfway through their 2001 United States Tour, The Philadelphia Orchestra and Music Director Wolfgang Sawallisch perform at Seattle's Benaroya Hall this evening, Monday, October 1. Concerts this past weekend included performances in San Diego, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. Audience enthusiasm and appreciation have been demonstrated throughout the three-week tour, with vigorous applause and standing ovations. Reviewing the tour's first concert at the Krannert Center in Illinois, music critic John Frayne wrote: "A capacity audience Friday night in the Foelinger Hall at the Krannert Center heard why The Philadelphia Orchestra, playing under Wolfgang Sawallisch, remains one of the greatest orchestras in the United States and indeed the world. . . . On the evidence of Friday night, the orchestra is in top form and a joy to hear. . . ."

Tickets Go Onsale for Fall Season October 2
Tickets for all Philadelphia Orchestra concerts this fall at the Academy of Music go on sale to the public beginning tomorrow, October 2. The first concert after the ensemble's current three-week U.S. Tour is the annual Marian Anderson Tribute Concert on October 22. This is followed by seven weekends of regular concerts as the Orchestra prepares to say farewell to the Academy of Music on December 12. The Orchestra moves to its new home at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, with televised gala concerts celebrating the building's Inaugural Weekend December 14-15. A variety of special programming has been scheduled for this fall at the Academy as the Orchestra salutes the famous opera house that has served as its faithful home during the past century. Subscriptions for the season are still available, with several series already soldout. Due to strong sales for the season, individual tickets for performances in the Kimmel Center after January 1 are available now only by subscription and will be released for public sale later this fall.
