Berlioz - Romeo and Juliet

Description:

Charles Dutoit leads the first of three major choral-orchestral works by Hector Berlioz to be performed during the 2008-09 Philadelphia Orchestra season. Utterly intrigued by the powerful tragedy of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the French Berlioz yearned to recreate its core elements in music. Picking and choosing only the most dramatic scenes and emotional highpoints, he painted a masterful, moving musical canvass filled with passion, potency, and intense longing. For soloists, chorus, and orchestra--and sung in French with projected English supertitles.
