Rodrick Dixon - Tenor

Program:

Schreker - Prelude to a Drama

Zemlinsky - Scenes from The Dwarf

Beethoven - Symphony No. 7

Description:

This concert features dancing joy and passionate splendor from Vienna. Guest conductor James Conlon has programmed a festive concert of two early- 20th-century romantic rarities coupled with a 19th-century favorite. Franz Schreker's luxuriant and shimmering Prelude to a Drama from 1914 sets the stage for this evocative program. And in scenes from Zemlinsky's opera The Dwarf, based on an Oscar Wilde story, lush and conflicting music promotes tension and love amidst mirrors of illusion. The concert concludes with Beethoven's joyously upbeat celebration of dance rhythms turned into a symphony.
