Guest conductor Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos offers a program of elegance, grace, majesty, and life-affirming joy. Famed bass James Morris takes the stage to perform excerpts from Wagner's only comic opera, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. As the cobbler Hans Sachs, Morris sings of humanity's place in the world--and the power of love on a warm summer night. Orchestral selections from the opera add cheerful exclamation and zestful joy. The program begins with Beethoven at his very best, in the festive Eighth Symphony, perfectly filled with wonder, fun, and goodness.
