Charles Dutoit - Conductor

Program:

Debussy - Images

Shostakovich - Symphony No. 5

Description:

This concert features French-inspired splash and Russian splendor, all perfect for showing off the full-range artistry of The Philadelphia Orchestra. Debussy's Images is a masterful musical triptych journeying across England, France, and Spain--including three scenes on a wonderfully warm day in a Spanish village--and all from a French perspective, shimmering with Debussy's impressionistic soundscape. The concert concludes with Shostakovich's tragic-triumphant Fifth Symphony. This work received a 30-minute ovation at its premiere in 1937, and presents a perfect big ending for a night of glorious music.
