Berlioz - Requiem

Description:

Charles Dutoit closes the season with a significant and daring piece by Hector Berlioz--written in 1837 for large chorus, an enormous orchestra, and ethereal tenor solo. Berlioz was most interested in the work's dramatic potential, and had a splendid time writing novel passages that alternate between sublime, quiet beauty and thundering, mad-rush weeping. Berlioz wrestled against his own wavering faith to create an unforgettable offering to the eternal hopes and fears of all humanity.
