Description:

Two generations of Austro-German composers were silenced by Nazi Germany. After World War II, the works and their authors were simply forgotten by the public. James Conlon has embarked on an ambitious project to recover these musical voices, and grant them their place in the standard repertory. In this Access Concert he will explore and conduct two works censored by Hitler: Franz Schreker's Prelude to a Drama, taken from an opera about an island orgy, and scenes from Alexander von Zemlinsky's opera The Dwarf, based on Oscar Wilde's tale of a deformed man who courts a Spanish princess.
