Advisory of Program Change - January 16-19, 2013 Performances

November 29, 2012

(Philadelphia, November 29, 2012)—The Philadelphia Orchestra has announced a program change for performances January 16-19, 2013. Violinist Leonidas Kavakos will perform Karol Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in place of Osvaldo Golijov’s Violin Concerto.

Performances include Wednesday, January 16, and Saturday, January 19, at 8:00 PM, as well as Friday, January 18, at 2:00 PM in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center. Also included is Thursday, January 17, at 8:00 PM at Carnegie Hall.

“Regardless of how they fare later in life, some works have a pleasant birth, while others a difficult one,” said Osvaldo Golijov. “The violin concerto belongs to the second type, and I can only hope that when it is ready to see the world, it will be worthy of the artistry of Leonidas Kavakos, as well as that of the other artists and presenters who entrusted me with its creation.”

The other works on this program—Ravel’s La Valse and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5—remain unchanged. For more information on The Philadelphia Orchestra, please visit www.philorch.org.
