Over 150 Violinists of All Ages will participate with Philadelphia Orchestra musicians in
Suzuki Violin Play-In, July 31, prior to Orchestra concert at the Mann Center
(Philadelphia, July 26, 2013)—Over 150 violinists will perform with the professionals when The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Mann Center for the Performing Arts present a Suzuki Violin Play-In prior to the Orchestra’s concert that evening. Violinists of all ages and abilities will get the chance to play with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra and be a part of the lush “Philadelphia Sound” at Fairmount Park on Wednesday, July 31, at 6:15 PM.
Just two weeks after registration opened, 155 violinists had signed up for the Suzuki Play-In. Those musicians will team up with violinists from the Orchestra to play musical selections from Suzuki Method Books 1-6. The performance begins with the most advanced piece, Fiocco’s Allegro, and ends with Suzuki’s “Twinkle” Theme and Variations. More and more musicians will enter the stage throughout the Play-In as the music reaches their ability levels, culminating in a mass performance to close the concert.
Following the Play-In, The Philadelphia Orchestra presents “From Russian Romance to Revolution,” a program featuring all-Russian favorites, including Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring and Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini for piano and orchestra, played by Curtis Institute of Music graduate Di Wu. Kirill Karabits makes his Philadelphia Orchestra debut conducting this performance.
Tickets for the Play-In and Philadelphia Orchestra concert can be purchased at www.manncenter.org or by calling 215.893.1999.
Support for this event has been provided by the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, Jacobs Music, the Volunteer Committees of The Philadelphia Orchestra, and members of The Philadelphia Orchestra.
