Chief Conductor Charles Dutoit and The Philadelphia Orchestra kick off the 2009-10 season with an Opening Gala Concert featuring Emmy Award-winning actor Alec Baldwin as narrator in Copland’s Lincoln Portrait. The patriotic work, which was written during the early years of World War II, features excerpts from Lincoln’s own words for the narration. Berlioz’s popular Roman Carnival Overture, part of Mr. Dutoit’s multi-year focus on the composer’s works, and Saint- Saëns’s Symphony No. 3 (“Organ”) complete the program.
