(Philadelphia, November 14, 2011)—The Philadelphia Orchestra released a live recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 on November 1, 2011, led by Music Director Designate Yannick Nézet-Séguin, in conjunction with his return to lead the Orchestra in his first subscription week of the 2011-12 season. Mahler’s Fifth Symphony was recorded live on October 31, 2010, in the last of a series of critically acclaimed subscription concerts at Verizon Hall that also marked Mr. Nézet-Séguin’s first performances as music director designate of the Orchestra. Of the performances, the Philadelphia Inquirer said that “[Yannick Nézet-Séguin] is a conductor who knows how to manage tension in pursuit of an emotionally satisfying climax, as he did magnificently near the end of the Mahler.”

Previously only available as a promotional download for new and returning 2011-12 season subscribers, the album is the first commercially available collaboration between Mr. Nézet-Séguin and the Orchestra. It is now available as a digital download through the Orchestra’s website at www.philorch.org, where it can be purchased in high-quality MP3 format through various digital music services, including iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, and eMusic; and in lossless FLAC format through HD Tracks.
