The Philadelphia Orchestra Association announces new Board members

(Philadelphia, August 23, 2011) – The Philadelphia Orchestra Association elected two new members to its Board of Directors at its meeting on May 23, 2011. Two area business and community leaders joined the Board: Robert M. Rechnitz, executive producer of Two River Theater Company, of Red Bank, New Jersey, and Raymond H. Welsh, senior vice president, UBS Financial Services, Inc., of Philadelphia.

Newly elected members of the Board of Directors

Robert M. Rechnitz is founder and executive director of Two River Theater Company. Prior to Two River, Mr. Rechnitz was professor of American Literature at Monmouth University for over 30 years. Since founding the theater company, he has directed Curse of the Starving Class, A View from the Bridge, and The Glass Menagerie, among others. For the opening production of the company’s own theater in 2005, Mr. Rechnitz directed You Can’t Take It With You; he has since also directed Barefoot in the Park in the new space. In the past, he has been a trustee of Red Bank’s Children’s Cultural Center and the Red Bank Education and Development Initiative. He has served on boards for the Count Basie Theatre, Monmouth County Arts Council, Monmouth Conservation Foundation, and Two River Theater Company. He is also an honorary board member of the Monmouth County Chamber Music Society. Mr. Rechnitz holds a B.S. in Speech from Northwestern University, an M.A. in English Literature from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Colorado. He resides with his wife, Joan, in Middletown, New Jersey.

• Raymond H. Welsh is senior vice president of UBS Financial Services, Inc. His career with UBS began 56 years ago when the firm was known as Kidder, Peabody & Co., Incorporated, and he has served in a range of capacities during his tenure there. Mr. Welsh currently chairs the Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia Board as well as its Army Kroc Corps Community Center’s $30 Million Campaign. He is director of Bancroft and Episcopal Community Services, a trustee of Penn Medicine, and an emeritus trustee for the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Welsh currently serves on the Investment Board of the Cradle of Liberty Boy Scouts, and he previously served on the boards of numerous civic and charitable organizations, including the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, the Annenberg Center, and the Union League of Philadelphia. Mr. Welsh received his B.S. degree in economics from the Wharton School, and served with the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1955, attaining the rank of Lieutenant (junior grade). Mr. Welsh resides with his wife, Joanne, in Haverford.
