Inaugural
Weekend for Orchestra's New Home December 14-16
The eyes of the musical world turn to Philadelphia this
week for the opening concerts of The Philadelphia Orchestra's
new home at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Two gala
evening concerts will be telecast live in Philadelphia to mark
the historic occasion.
Friday, December 14, features a gala preview variety show,
opening with a Philadelphia Orchestra performance and closing
with a set of songs with Elton John. The concert, which begins
at 7:00 p.m., is being telecast live on WPVI-TV (Channel 6
ABC) and broadcast on KYW Radio (1060 AM).
Saturday, December 15, marks the Orchestra's Inagural Concert
in its new home. The 7:00 p.m. concert in Verizon Hall will
be telecast live on WHYY-TV (Channel 12 PBS) and broadcast
on WHYY Radio (90.9 FM), with national television feed for
delayed telecasts throughout the country over the next two
weeks.
Following these gala Inaugural Concerts, official ribbon-cutting
and a grand Public Opening for the Kimmel Center conclude
the weekend on Sunday, December 16.
