		Tuesday, December 11, 2001 Inaugural Weekend for Orchestra's New Home December 14-16 Special Event Gives Sneak Preview of New Hall's Acoustics Tickets Now On Sale for Concerts at Kimmel Center Kimmel Center Subscriber Open House Set for December 21 Annual Fund Calls for Year-End Tax Deductions

		Inaugural Weekend for Orchestra's New Home December 14-16 The eyes of the musical world turn to Philadelphia this week for the opening concerts of The Philadelphia Orchestra's new home at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Two gala evening concerts will be telecast live in Philadelphia to mark the historic occasion. Friday, December 14, features a gala preview variety show, opening with a Philadelphia Orchestra performance and closing with a set of songs with Elton John. The concert, which begins at 7:00 p.m., is being telecast live on WPVI-TV (Channel 6 ABC) and broadcast on KYW Radio (1060 AM). Saturday, December 15, marks the Orchestra's Inagural Concert in its new home. The 7:00 p.m. concert in Verizon Hall will be telecast live on WHYY-TV (Channel 12 PBS) and broadcast on WHYY Radio (90.9 FM), with national television feed for delayed telecasts throughout the country over the next two weeks. Following these gala Inaugural Concerts, official ribbon-cutting and a grand Public Opening for the Kimmel Center conclude the weekend on Sunday, December 16.

		Special Event Gives Sneak Preview of New Hall's Acoustics "The holidays came a little early this year!" proclaimed Philadelphia Orchestra Chairman Dick Smoot following a spectacularly successful Acoustic Test Session in the Orchestra's new concert hall last week. The 90-minute session on December 6, which featured performances by the Orchestra for an invited audience, concluded the Orchestra's first day of rehearsal in its new home. Audience, musicians, and journalists all seemed pleased by their initial impressions of Verizon Hall. Stated Philadelphia Inquirer music critic Peter Dobrin, "If the first impressions prove true, Philadelphia may be about to get one of the great concert halls of the world. . . . The early signs are promising."

		Tickets Now Onsale for Concerts at Kimmel Center All remaining tickets for The Philadelphia Orchestra's 2001-02 season are now on sale to the general public, including all performances in the Orchestra's Inaugural Season at the Kimmel Center. Following months of anticipation and strong subscription sales, many performances are sold out, or nearly sold out. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Academy of Music Ticket Office (moving to the Kimmel Center later this week), by telephone at 215.893.1999, or on-line by visiting the Orchestra's website www.philorch.org.

		Kimmel Center Subscriber Open House Set for December 21 A special Subscriber Open House has been scheduled for the Kimmel Center on Friday, December 21. From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Orchestra's new home will be open for subscribers to come in, enjoy special musical and other presentations, and to walk around the public spaces of this new landmark building. Inside Verizon Hall, subscribers will be able to find their own seats and preview the spectacular views of the stage and the Orchestra's acoustically vibrant new home.

		Annual Fund Calls for Year-End Tax Deductions As December brings us to a time of year of thanksgiving, gift-giving, and gathering together for celebration and community, the Orchestra's Annual Fund Office reminds everyone of the upcoming end of the calendar (and tax) year. Many gifts to the Orchestra are tax-deductible as provided by law, with the Orchestra currently working toward an ambitious Annual Fund goal of $4.1 million for 2001-02.
