Assistant Conductor Audition

The Philadelphia Orchestra seeks an Assistant Conductor beginning with the 2022–23 season. The Assistant Conductor serves as an assistant and cover conductor to Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, as well as to an unparalleled roster of esteemed guest conductors in Philadelphia, on international tours, and in summer residencies. The Assistant Conductor has the opportunity to conduct select educational, community, summer, and special concerts, with the possibility for additional podium time based on experience.

The Assistant Conductor also provides general artistic consultation, assists in the preparation of major artistic projects and productions, and reviews recorded material for commercial releases and broadcast. The Assistant Conductor conducts or leads educational events such as PlayINs, Side-by-Sides, and PopUP concerts with Philadelphia Orchestra musicians. Other duties may include hosting pre-concert lectures, artist interviews, cultivation events, and other audience engagement activities.

All candidates must be:

  1. Authorized to work in the United States;
  2. Available to participate in an in-person audition and interview in Philadelphia on Tuesday, November 23, 2021;
  3. Available to accept full-time employment for the entire 2022–23 season, beginning August 1, 2022; and
  4. Able to provide a proof of vaccination and any required booster against COVID-19.
