The Play-In’s the Thing

Do you want to play with The Philadelphia Orchestra?

Actually, if you play a woodwind or brass instrument, harp or double bass, you can.

On February 15, the Orchestra presents the first of this season’s popular Play-Ins, in which musicians of any age and any level of ability get to play side by side with members of Fabulous Philadelphians.

The Play-Ins begin Saturday, February 15, at 6:30 PM at the Orchestra’s home in the Kimmel Center with woodwind players.

No Shadow of a Doubt for Cristian Măcelaru's Interpretation of Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings

Tchaikovsky’s third movement of the Serenade for Strings, Élégie, opens with what Philadelphia Orchestra Associate Conductor Cristian Măcelaru calls a simple motion scale, in which the upper strings ascend the scale and the lower strings descend.
