A Labor of Love

When introducing her work, Above Lighta Conversation with Tōru Takemitsu, Xi Wang described hearing her music as “seeing my own child.” The development of a composition is indeed a labor of love, and the Showcase for Works by Women Composers, held by The Philadelphia Orchestra on September 6, provided an opportunity for Wang and five other composers to see their pieces come to life in a collaborative working session.

Joseph and Lynn Manko to Receive Philadelphia Orchestra Award

At the 2018 Opening Night Concert, The Philadelphia Orchestra Award will be presented to Joseph M. Manko, Sr., and the late Lynn K. Manko for their outstanding volunteer leadership, philanthropy, and advocacy in support of The Philadelphia Orchestra. The Award is given by the Board of Directors to one or more persons in the Orchestra family of Board members, volunteers, musicians, staff, and friends, or to an organization that has made exemplary contributions to The Philadelphia Orchestra Association.
