Haunting harmonies and mysterious melodies for the whole family! Come in costume for fright and delight at The Philadelphia Orchestra./p>
Tuesday, April 24, marked the one-month countdown to the Orchestra’s first concert of the 2018 Tour of Europe and Israel. To celebrate the occasion, and to highlight the Orchestra’s important role in cultural diplomacy, Wolfgang Waldner, the Ambassador of Austria to the US, and his wife, Gudrun Faudon-Waldner, hosted a special chamber music performance and dinner at their official residence in Washington, DC.
Ryan Fleur, Philadelphia Orchestra Interim Co-President; Gudrun Faudon-Waldner; Trevor Traina, Ambassador of the United States to Austria; and Wolfgang Waldner, the Ambassador of Austria to the U.S.
Philadelphia Orchestra violinists Julia Li and Jeoung-Yin Kim, violist Meng Wang, and Assistant Principal Cello Yumi Kendall performed a special all-Mozart program for the audience.
Among those who enjoyed the beautiful music in such a lovely setting were Maguy Maccario Doyle, Ambassador of Monaco; Hynek Kmoníček, Ambassador of the Czech Republic; Lauri Lepik, Ambassador of Estonia; Sylvie Lucas, Ambassador of Luxembourg; Tihomir Stoytchev, Ambassador of Bulgaria; Trevor Traina, recently confirmed Ambassador of the United States to Austria; and Kazutoshi Aikawa, Japanese Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission.
It was an honor to share the evening with representatives from countries where classical music is so cherished. We look forward to celebrating these meaningful partnerships for many years to come!
