Yannick Nézet-Séguin "leads an orchestra ready to give him its all,” wrote The New York Times. The Philadelphia Orchestra does just that when it performs two symphonies by Austrian masters. Haydn’s Symphony No. 103 takes its nickname from the drumroll that introduces the first movement, leading to a superb set of second-movement variations and a gloriously energetic finale. Bruckner’s “Romantic” Symphony is a grandly scaled work that thrills with its rousing brass fanfares and heroic spirit.
