John Williams’ movie scores are some of the best known pieces in modern-day cinema, from the Star Wars “Imperial March” to the ethereal Close Encounters of the Third Kind suite. Perhaps not as well known—but just as rich and lyrical—are his orchestral pieces like the Violin Concerto. The concerto begins with unaccompanied solo violin in a haunting opening theme, and moves into a more romantic orchestral sound.
