The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts opened December 14 -16, 2001, as the new Home of The Philadelphia Orchestra. The block-long performing arts complex in the heart of Philadelphia includes state-of-the-art performance spaces, backstage facilities, and audience amenities enclosed under a soaring glass-arched roof. Designed by architect Rafael Viñoly and acoustician Russell Johnson, the Kimmel Center includes the 2,500-seat Verizon Hall, designed and built especially for the Orchestra, and the more intimate 650-seat Perelman Theater for chamber music presentations. The Kimmel Center provides the Orchestra with a state-of-the-art facility for concerts, recordings, and education activities.
This cultural landmark is named in honor of Philadelphia businessman and philanthropist Sidney Kimmel, who gave the largest individual gift toward its construction. Kimmel has served on the Board of Directors of The Philadelphia Orchestra since 1995.
The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and the Academy of Music serve as home to nine Resident Company performing arts organizations: The Philadelphia Orchestra, Opera Philadelphia, the Philly Pops, Pennsylvania Ballet, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Curtis Institute of Music, PHILADANCO, the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, and the Marian Anderson Award.
Verizon Hall

This elegant cello-shaped 2,500-seat auditorium combines warmth and richness of design within extraordinary sightlines and acoustically advanced technologies. From classical to pop music, ceremonial programs to corporate meetings, Verizon Hall is a perfect setting for events on a grand scale.

Perelman Theater
The 650-seat Perelman Theater is a multi-use recital hall/proscenium theater. A unique 75-foot-diameter turntable stage transforms the Perelman Theater from an intimate recital hall with outstanding acoustics to a proscenium theater with a deep stage, complete fly-loft and orchestra pit. First level theater seats maybe lowered and retracted to create flat seating for cabaret and theater in-the-round, as well as for experimental performances.
