Beethoven Symphony No. 7
The Philadelphia Orchestra continues its celebration of a quarter-millennium of Beethoven at Carnegie Hall with the composer’s Seventh and Eighth symphonies. Inspired by a journal entry penned by Beethoven in 1815, Carlos Simon—a 2021 Sphinx Medal of Excellence recipient—wrote Fate Now Conquers, a series of musical gestures that represents fate’s unpredictability. Altogether, it’s a fitting program for a magnificent orchestra as renowned for interpreting musical history as it is for participating in it.
