Gustavo Dudamel electrifies audiences around the globe with his passionate approach to everything he conducts. Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony is a perfect showcase for his highly anticipated Philadelphia Orchestra debut.
The program opens with the world premiere of Esteban Benzecry’s MUYUY, The circle of life, written during the COVID-19 pandemic. Muyuy is a Quechua language reference to the idea that life and death are “integrated in a continuity without beginning or end, everything transforms and continues.” South-American composer Alberto Ginastera’s fierce Piano Concerto complements this dynamic program highlighting Dudamel’s creative energy on the podium.
