Program Notes

Special announcement: Following the Saturday, October 22, performance of Mozart and Wagner, Principal Guest Conductor Nathalie Stutzmann and pianist Haochen Zhang will be signing the newly released album Beethoven: The 5 Piano Concertos, featuring The Philadelphia Orchestra. CD sets will be available for purchase at $40; only cash payments will be accepted.

Nathalie Stutzmann leads the Orchestra and an incredible cast of opera stars as they perform selections from Mozart’s iconic opera Don Giovanni, the story of the legendary, fictional libertine Don Juan and his exploits in Spain. Arguably Wagner’s most beloved orchestral work, the beautiful Siegfried Idyll was secretly prepared as a birthday gift for his second wife, Cosima, and first performed on Christmas morning in 1870. The program also includes Arnold Schoenberg’s romantic Transfigured Night, a melodic piece that tells the tale of a couple walking at night through in the woods.
