Yannick Nézet-Séguin Conductor

Program:

Frank Selections from Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout, for string orchestra
Mendelssohn Symphony No. 4 (“Italian”)

Yannick leads the audience through an exploration of place and culture in works composed nearly two centuries apart.

Philadelphia Orchestra Composer-in-Residence Gabriela Lena Frank says that Leyendas “draws inspiration from the idea of mestizaje, a mixing of ethnic and cultural groups, as envisioned by the Peruvian writer José María Arguedas, where cultures can coexist without the subjugation of one by the other. As such, this piece brings together elements from the Western classical and Andean folk music traditions."

Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 remains widely considered one of the best examples of his genius. The movements reflect the composer’s travels through Italy.

Please note: All Digital Stage events begin with a performance premiere, streaming in real time. Following the performance premiere, the concert will be available for ticket holders to watch on demand for 72 hours.
