Philadelphia Orchestra Launches “Orchestra on Demand”
New “Orchestra on Demand” Feature of Philadelphia Orchestra Website
Offers Access to Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s Recorded Concerts with
The Philadelphia Orchestra
(Philadelphia, October 24, 2016)—At last week’s Annual Meeting of The Philadelphia Orchestra Association, President and CEO Allison Vulgamore announced yet another technological innovation by The Philadelphia Orchestra. The Association has created a new online digital portal called “Orchestra on Demand” offering unprecedented access to performances of The Philadelphia Orchestra, which will launch to the general public Monday, October 24. “Orchestra on Demand” is made possible through generous support from Board of Directors member John H. McFadden and Lisa D. Kabnick.
“The Philadelphia Orchestra is proud to once again seize an opportunity offered by evolving technology,” said Vulgamore. “Most of us have probably attended a Philadelphia Orchestra performance and thought, ‘I’d love to hear that again.’ Technology provides the means, and we have worked with our musicians to develop a new way for those who love The Philadelphia Orchestra to enjoy these timeless performances over and over again.”
Some portions of the “Orchestra on Demand” section of the website are free. Full access can be obtained by all those who donate or purchase tickets to the value of $50 or above, on an annual ongoing basis, to access numerous audio and select video resources. Those who do not already qualify will be offered the option to donate to gain immediate access to the contents of the site.
Highlights of currently available content include WRTI’s radio broadcasts of Yannick Nézet-Séguin and The Philadelphia Orchestra along with other programs featuring special guest artists and conductors. Concerts dating back to Yannick’s inaugural 2012-13 season as music director will be available for patron streaming. Additional content includes concerts by former Music Director Wolfgang Sawallisch. More content will be added in the future. These concert recordings are possible because of the special media partnership with WRTI, whose weekly broadcasts of The Philadelphia Orchestra are featured in “Orchestra on Demand.” Additional content includes educational recordings generously prepared by Philadelphia Orchestra Board of Directors member Michael Cone.
