Program Notes
Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony is a towering triumph. Cascading from brooding themes to the serenity of woodwinds to the overwhelming tragic grandeur of the finale, the work has astounded audiences since its April 1885 premiere in London. Plus, Principal Clarinet Ricardo Morales takes center stage in a world premiere of the “invitingly lyrical” composer Jacob Bancks’s Clarinet Concerto, a Philadelphia Orchestra co-commission. Opening the concert is Berlioz's radiant Roman Carnival Overture.
