Bock/orch. Williams Fiddler on the Roof

Program Notes

With nine Tony awards including Best Musical, Fiddler on the Roof sang and danced its way into America’s heart in 1964, becoming an instant classic. This March, experience John Williams’s Oscar-winning score live on stage in a unique collaboration with the University Musical Society (UMS) at the University of Michigan that explores this beloved musical and its timeless theme of “Tradition!” through a modern lens.

We Stand with the People of Ukraine
Fiddler on the Roof takes place in the small village of Anatevka. While it is a fictional village, its universal story is very real and evermore searing in light of the invasion of Ukraine.

The arts will always be a force for good, for peace, for higher aspiration—to encourage humanity, and, as Yannick Nézet-Séguin so often suggests, to bring joy. Now, at these performances, with the arts as our voice, we sing with our whole hearts for Ukraine.
