Montgomery Starburst—First Philadelphia Orchestra Performance
Mahler/orch. Stein Symphony No. 4
Celebrated composer Jessie Montgomery’s exuberant Starburst juxtaposes exploding gestures with fleeting melodies in a perfect musical demonstration of an astronomical starburst—the rapid formation of many new stars so intense that it alters the structure of a galaxy. In a performance that continues to explore the wonder of the skies, celebrated soprano Janai Brugger joins Yannick and the Orchestra to interpret Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, built around Mahler’s song “The Heavenly Life.” Experience this work as never heard before, in a version arranged for a small chamber orchestra.
